Hero background
Coral Reefs Restoration

The Mesoamerican Reef is under threat from macroalgae overgrowth, which hinders coral growth and reef regeneration. But there’s a small hero that can make a big difference: the Caribbean King Crab. These crabs have a special appetite for macroalgae, helping to keep reefs healthy. Additionally, crabs can be fished and generate income for local fishers and MPAs. Integrating crabs into restoration programs can support the recovery of these vital ecosystems. MAR+Invest, alongside strategic partners, is exploring how this crab can be part of an innovative and sustainable solution to protect the reef.
